Floris Alkemade

Floris Alkemade has been collaborating with Rem Koolhaas at OMA since he graduated from the Technical University of Delft in 1989. Within OMA, he led for 5 years the design team of the master plan for the new city centre in Lille, France. Currently, he is the project architect of the master plan for the new town center of Almere, Netherlands – a new community to accommodate three hundred thousand people in the suburbs of Amsterdam, the master plan for the ‘Zeche Zollverein’ in Essen, Germany – a future Unesco world heritage project , and of studies for the ‘Clausplein’ area in The Hague. Alkemade teaches at different Universities in Holland, Belgium and France and he is member of the architecture selection committee: Fonds voor beeldende kunsten, vormgeving en bouwkunst. He is part of a research group initiated by the COB, studying underground architecture.
