Curriculum Vitae 

Mario Campi was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1936, and studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (M Arch 1960, July).

From 1962 to 1996, he has been principal of Mario Campi Franco Pessina, Architects, based in Lugano, Switzerland. Niki Piazzoli joined in 1969 the office. He left in 1983 to become Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Buildings. Since 1997 Mario Campi leads the office by his own.

 

Mario Campi's completed buildings in Switzerland include many private houses and other buildings such as Casa Vanini (1962), Muzzano; Piccolo Federale (1962), Lugano; Casa Filippini (1964), Muzzano; Museo Civico nel Castello di Montebello (1974), Bellinzona; Scuole elementari del Basso Malcantone (1975), Caslano; Scuole elementari del Bertaccio (1976), Lugano; Casa Felder (1978), Lugano; Casa Maggi (1980), Arosio; Casa Polloni (1981), Origlio; Casa Boni (1982), Massagno; Case a schiera di via Cabione (1985), Massagno; Casa Kress (1986), Breganzona; Case A. Schiera Praccio (1990),Massagno; Casa Baudino (1990), Como; Haus J.(1993), Aegeri; Kindergarten (1996), Massagno; Casa Arnold (1999), Montagnola 

In addition to his built work, Mario Campi has been influential through his projects, theories and competition entries.

He submitted the winning design for the completion of a historical town in Unterseen (1986) and the winning entry for social housing (1987) in Lugano, Switzerland. He also submitted the winning design for the Hotel Schwanen in Baden, (1989) and the winning entry for the new building of the Chemistry faculty for the "Dritte Ausbauetappe" at ETHZ in Zurich (1991), for Bielefeld (1995)  Ravensberger Park, City Hall (1997) Zollikon

He has taken part in many exhibitions in Europe and the U.S., including the XV Triennale di Architettura in Milan (1973), Tendenzen, Neuere Architektur im Tessin at ETHZ (1975), Traveling exhibition of his work at Harvard University, Cambridge, Columbia University, New York, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.,; Malmö (1992); Florence and Como (1996), Itlay

Mario Campi has been a lecturer and Professor at Syracuse University, Harvard University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Princeton University, from 1977 until 1985 when he became Professor for Architecture and Urban Design at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich where he was appointed Dean of the Department of Architecture in 1988.

He finished the IBM-Headquarters (1995) in Zurich and the Social Housing (1995), Via Beltramina Lugano and is presently working at the finish of the building for the"Dritte Ausbauetappe ETHZ", Zurich, to be completed this September (2000) and the Boardinghouse Dossmann (1998) in Berlin, Germany. The Housing project for Bo Ol, Propellern is now under construction in Malmö, Sweden
