In the years between 1902 and 1923 the Zionist project went through an incredibly active experimental and construction phase. Significant undertakings such as the Technical School in Haifa, the School of Applied Arts in Jerusalem, the founding of the first Jewish city Tel Aviv and the electrification of Palestine were initiated. The green tables at which the strategies were designed were located in the heart of Europe – most of the planning heads came from German-speaking countries. This chapter of Western transfer of ideas to the Middle East, which has remained sustainable to this day, is as much a part of the cultural history of Europe as it is of the development history of the State of Israel.
