In 1862 and 1863 Gottfried Semper designed and built an Italian country house in Schinkel’s style in Castasegna on the Swiss border with Italy for the Bergell customs director Agostino Garbald and his wife, the poet Silvia Andrea. In 2002, the Basel architectural firm Miller & Maranta won the competition for the restoration, conversion and extension of the villa, which is now used as a think tank, a seminar centre for the ETH and the University of Zurich as well as other groups from the fields of education and business.
For the new edition of the publication, the first edition of which has been out of print for years, the texts were adapted to the current state of information.
