THE SCHINDLER GLOBAL AWARD 2017 IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

The 2017 Schindler Global Award (SGA) student urban design competition has begun. Starting from June 16, 2016, registration is open for students to put their design skills to the test on an international scale. Students in their final Bachelor degree year and Masters degree students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning are invited to join one of the most prominent pre-professional urban design competitions in the world which is organized for the 7th time.

Participation in the SGA asks students for designs that address the complex conditions and substantial challenges of contemporary urbanization. The 2017 competition site is in the center of São Paulo, Brazil, and tackles the planned relocation of a wholesale marketplace. The brief asks students to use mobility as a catalyst for change, from the design of public spaces and infrastructure to the role of economic and social forces. Questions about the integration of urban elements and populations are the focus of this holistic ideas competition.

An international jury of renowned experts, including Ciro Biedermann, Fernando de Mello Franco, Hubert Klumpner and Paola Viganò, will evaluate the entries and allocate awards, with a total prize sum of over 100,000 USD. The registration deadline for the SGA is December 16, 2016. Entries are due by December 31, 2016, and prizes will be awarded in mid-2017.

The biennale SGA is held by Schindler Group, a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services, in collaboration with the ETH Zurich, Chair of Architecture and Urban Design, led by Professor Kees Christiaanse, for the 2016-2017 competition cycle.

The official competition website www.schindleraward.com serves as a platform for ideas, where a range of interviews and articles will be published throughout the duration of the competition.
