warm-up

milling > > > first steps

starting point

painting by robert indiana > > > love

Indiana-Love.jpg   the idea was to take the flat painting of indiana into 3D. to achive that, the brightness values of the picture were transfered into height values. after a few more steps the result was ready to be milled by a 3-axis mill.

workflow

modelling > > > generating 3D data

loveVWshot.jpg   the first step was to create an xml-file out of the image and translate it with an vectorscript into nurbs-curves as seen in the screenshot on the left.

loveMayashot.jpg   the nurbs-curves were exported to maya to create a lofted surface.

loveSCshot01.jpg   after importing the lofted surface into SURFcam, the milling paths can be calculated.

loveSCshot01.jpg   to check if the settings are okay, the milling process can be simulated in SURFcam. in the end the data is saved as g-code and can be sent to the mill.

final result
