Tim Rieniets is working as lecturer and researcher at the chair for architecture and urban design at the ETH Zurich since 2003.
He is teaching at design studios and seminars and has been a guest lecturer and critic at various academic institutions.

From 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the project team Shrinking Cities , Berlin. he directed a global research study on the phenomenon of urban shrinkage.
Results of the study have been published and exhibited (see below). Together with Philipp Oswalt he has published the Atlas of Shrinking Cities in 2006. The book was awarded by
the Swiss Federal Office for Culture (BKA) for the best swiss book design 2006.

From 2003 to 2006 Tim Rieniets was co-coordinator and teacher of the research project Grenzgeografien (geografies of conflict).
Grenzgeografien was the first trilateral platform for israeli, palestinian and european students and experts to investigate the urban transformations of Jerusalem
in the context of the israeli-palestinian conflict. It was a joint project by Universität der Künste (UDK), Berlin, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, International Peace and Cooperation Centre (IPCC), Jerusalem and ETH Zurich. Results of the project have been published and exhibited (see below). In 2006 Philipp Misselwitz and Tim Rieniets have published
the book Cities of Collision - Jerusalem and the Principles of Conflict Urbanism . The book was awarded by the 'Stiftung Buchkunst' for the best book design 2006.

In collaboration with the Turkish author and urban researcher Orhan Esen, Tim Rieniets has conducted an research project for students from ETH Zurich and temporary participants
from Turkish universities, investigating urban processes of urbanization and segregation at the town of Göktürk , Istanbul.

Since 2007 Tim Rieniets is coordinator of the Urban Research Studio at the chair for Urban Design. The Urban Research Studio is a teaching and research project,
investigating new teaching and research methodologies in urban design. The Urban Research Studio is made possible by Fonds-FILEP and will be conducted in cooperation
with the 'Didaktik Zentrum' (DIZ), ETH Zurich.

Tim Rieniets has been guest lecturer at: Berlage Institut, Rotterdam (2007); University Zurich, Master of Applied History (2007); School of Art and Design Zurich, postgraduate studies 'Urban Identity and Design' (2007), Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, departement of design in Dessau (2005) and others.
