The classical orders of columns form the base for the theory of architecture. Referring to the antique texts of Vitruvius, these systems are analysed and discussed in nearly all architectural books since the Renaissance to present day. In the CAAD-Course „replay säulenatlas“ the traditional way of describing the orders of columns by text and illustrations was translated into the syntax of the computer-based „Extensible Markup Language“, short XML. The Säulenatlas shows how the use of this format supports new ways of describing and displaying the orders of columns.
