Create Your Own Neighbourhood

On 15. and 16. of September 2001 the CAAD-Team made a live demonstration of the KAISERSROT software for dynamic urban planning. The software allowed the visitors of the exhibition to participate in the design process of a new village. We started with a default set of 100 uninhabited plots, all of same size and without any demands. Now every visitor could settle in one of these empty plots by filling in a form, that defined size and style of the house and the site, and preferences for the plot's position and neighbourhood. Every 20 minutes the software was updated by the new information and the plot rearranged themselves to a new map, that was printed. So each new 'inhabitant' was able to check his site immediately and maybe reconsidered his demands. The demonstration is a nice example for a new kind of bottom up design process. Here the plan layout follows the rules of the inhabitants. In the past the inhabitants followed the rules of the plan layout... naiTopTogether.gif
