TEACHING

ELECTIVE COURSES

Short description

The workshop seminars examine contemporary urban phenomena from the dual perspective of architecture and urban design, and develop useable methods and tools by means of design.

Teaching goals

The aim is to develop sustainable strategies for the urban design practice that creatively integrate ever-changing social tendencies into the dynamic planning and control processes. As an addition to the required reading of “Design and Strategy in Urban Space,” the seminars are an in-depth examination of selected urban design questions and projects. For this purpose, and by using actual case studies, we will highlight semester subjects such as changing cultural landscape, activating urban wasteland, concentrating urban hubs, or intensifying specialized networks. Experts in the field and stakeholders will be an active part of the seminars, which reinforces our goal to have a continuous exchange between teaching and practice. The knowledge gained from a synergy between research and design will give students an understanding of innovative strategies and instruments that can be implemented to initiate and control complex developments in urban space in the future.
