If you intend to spend the weekend following the conference to visit beautiful Switzerland, then you may be interested in one of the following tours that we have selected for you. We have organized two different tours on Saturday 24. May 2014, described below.
If you are interested in joining any of these tours, please inform us before May 1st 2014. Due to the requirement for a minimum participation, we will then inform you whether the tour is still happening.
Option 1: Excursion “UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch”
Duration: Full Day. Departure 08.00am from Zurich, Carparking Sihlquai (next to the main station). Arrival at Zurich 5.00pm, Carparking Sihlquai (next to the main station)
Content: The UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch is located in central Switzerland at the foot of the Alps. It is famous for its mystical and pristine nature including bogs, riverine forests and cave systems. Regional products, traditional management techniques and renewable energies support the ways to sustainability in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. On our tour we will visit a local pasta factory and a traditional dairy and cheese factory located at 1334 m a.s.l. and get to know interesting aspects of management issues concerning the landscape. This trip will also give you the opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous landscape of Entlebuch and to buy local products.
Price: per person: between CHF 100.00 and CHF 150.00, depending on the number of participants (with a minimum of 20 participants).
Option 2: Guided tour through the parks of Zurich
Duration: 2.5h guided (10.00 – 12.30) tour by Claudia Moll through the parks of Zurich-Oerlikon. Meeting point at 10.00am at the final destination of bus 80: Zürich, Bahnhof Oerlikon Nord.
Content: During the last two decades one of the largest urban industrial areas in Switzerland has been turned into the modern residential and working area Neu-Oerlikon. Meanwhile, about 10’000 workplaces and apartments for 5000 inhabitants were developed on the roughly 55 hectares of land. The four city parks within the area, inaugurated between 2001 and 2004, count as manifest of recent Swiss landscape architecture. They have been accompanying the urban planning development from the former industrial area to the modern residential and working area and offer various possibilities of use. The sites, designed by renowned Swiss landscape architects, assimilate the history of the place on the one hand and seek to meet the demands for green space in the city of today’s users on the other hand. However, the partly idiosyncratic concepts and planning ideas have been criticized since the building of the park areas. A visit of the parks will be the key aspect of the guided tour, additionally, concepts of urban planning and their realizations will be addressed.
