Archipelagic Network north of Lucerne

Students:  Ferdinand Schmidt and Max-Emanuel Mantel

The Lucerne Lake Valley region defined in the north by the Jura-Mountain-Chains, marks the eastern border of the Napf region with the Suhretal, Wiggertal, Rottal and Sempachersee als liniear landscape elements. Today it is characterized by the intersection of the city-network along the highly frequented north south axis and the still quite zones of the less developed Rot-Tal and the Suhretal which are currently experiencing a growing attractiveness for new building activity. Focusing on the in-between area between the Sempachersee and the Napf the project proposes to close the loop of public infrastructure around this area and to trigger the development of an archipelago of cities along this loop interrupted by landscape corridors. It integrates the program and characteristics of the still agrarian inner core and aims at reducing the current developments which depend on private mobility.
