Peri urban network Bern-Thun
Students: Samuel Seiler and Vera Raskina
The high pressure of urbanization in the Aaretal and between Bern and Burgdorf as well as the Emmental stands in contrast to the quiet zones on the fringes of the Napf-mountain region in the east of the area. As a result the communes especially in the Aaretal along the main infrastructure axis tend to grow until they merge to one continuous urban fabric. To counteract this pressure the project proposes an urban development in close communion with the landscape respecting existing agricultural land. Based on a Zoning plan for the un-built that uses existing and historic landscape elements reacting on different conditions and production-types as structuring elements, a new, but already existing, form of landscape is becoming more visible and gives new value and attention to its surrounding. The result is a strong definition of both, the built and the un-built and a rising awareness for productive landscapes and thus protection of the Aaretal.
