Rankhof Garden

The project concerns the transformation of the site of the bus depot located in the center of a large allotment garden area. As the current bus facility barely meets the demand of an increasing fleet, the proposal suggests the relocation of the depot in the northern part of the site, with main accessibility from the Bäumlihofstrasse. As the remaining area of the site is used by family gardens, which have to be maintained by local law, the proposal suggests the development of a narrow residential building (five meters in section) to be built along the edge of the site. The old bus depot will be transformed into a sport and leisure facility, located in the core of a residential area surrounded by allotment gardens. The aim was to show that through careful reorganization of the site, it is possible to maintain the allotment garden (green zone) and to relocate the bus depot, while offering new unique and site-specific housing opportunities. The functions can work together and even complement one another.
