Bruderholz
Students: Samuel Seiler and Daniel Ayad
Geologically spoken the plateau of the Bruderholz between the Birs and Birsig is part of the French Sundgau in the west of Basel. Almost completely surrounded by city fabric and very close to the city center and main station, it has the potential to play an important role as an urban/ agricultural park and recreation site. Due to its central and beautiful location the site is threatened by the growth of single and multi- family housing neigborhoods that are already cutting deeply into the landscape entity. The project proposes a new and robust edge and redefines built and unbuilt zones around the Bruderholz. Existing ways are joined into a web of paths which are connected down to the valleys at regular intervals, thus increasing the accessibility and availableness of the park.
