German Metrobasel - Wood & Vegetables
Jason Hoffmann, Anne Keser
With a forest area of approximately 40 600 hectares (50 percent of the area) the district of Lörrach is densely forested and covers 38 % of Baden-Württemberg. The forest dominates the landscape and has an outstanding role in preserving the habitat and species diversity. It acts as an important water reservoir, air filter and for the erosion and climate protection. Our approach is to create a food production site connecting the city, leisure, food and energy, based on the ideas of Thunen’s Modell. The regional demand of vegetables & fruit and the potential energy source of the Black Forest brought us to the conclusion of exploring the potential of greenhouses in this region.
