Belgrade FORMAL / INFORMAL
A Research on Urban Transformation
Amphitheater, Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade,
Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 73, Belgrade, RS
The formula “instability of the formal” and “stability of the informal” describes complementary forms of a common energy underlying the urban transformation of Belgrade over the past twenty years. The city’s transformation reflects and magnifies tensions that shape developments worldwide, offering a sort of case study of a city caught between tradition and globalization.
This study of Belgrade is part of a series of urban portraits put together by Studio Basel since 2002, as part of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich. We are delighted to be able to present the study at the Faculty of Architecture of the University in Belgrade, in the format of a lecture followed by a discussion.
