1. St. Jakob Boulevard

Students:  Rebecca Borer, Felipe Inauen

In the 2nd half of the 20st century Muttenz and Pratteln developed far from their historic village cores along the road and rail corridors. Today a heterogenic mix of industrial sites, low profile commercial structures, parking lots, petrol stations and often surprisingly low rise housing seams the cantonal road connecting both cities with Basel the metropolitan centre. This project starts with a thoroughly analysis of the streetscape and the surrounding areas to identify sites for potential new buildings and densification. The next step is a study of different typologies that could be erected on potential sites or replace existing structures at underused spots. Each typology is evaluated by its programmatic opportunities as well as its capability to form a streetscape expressing a certain level of urbanity.
