2. Living over the railtracks
Students: Petra Pfaff and Matteo Ricchi
The infrastructural corridors in the Hochrheintal just before Basel are perceived as massive blockade dividing the settlement areas from the Rhine and the natural reservoir of the Hardwald. The shunting card at Muttenz covers 90 ha 6 minutes from Basel central station on the rhine terraces close to the new site of the FHNW. The project proposes three bridges to allow the rail track field to be understood as a flowing landscape of infrastructure. The first one is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge connecting the cantonal road with the Hotel Restaurant Waldhaus at the Rhine river banks. The second one is an inhabited bridge in the extension of the neue Bahnhofstrasse and the third one is creating a green-link connecting the green island between Muttenz and Pratteln to the Hardwald.
